- Abstract
- Several previous surveys into osteoporosis had shown positive efforts at educating women had raised their level of knowledge about osteoporosis and their intention to take preventative action. Actual action taken was however harder to prove. This survey selected recent patients who had been diagnosed as at medium or medium/high risk of fracture by means of the British School of Osteopathic Medicine C.U.B.A. clinical scanner. They were sent a postal questionnaire in order to find out whether they had been appraised of the facts about osteoporosis and preventative measures on a continuing basis and whether they had altered their lifestyle as a result. The results showed that most sufferers of osteoporosis had a good knowledge of the disease and preventative measures, although a minority were unaware sometimes of quite important facts and the survey concluded that there were still gaps in the system of providing ongoing advice and information.The results also showed that a proportion of women once diagnosed were open to making changes to their lifestyle and actually did make those changes. However there were many who had not significantly changed their lifestyle.
