AbstractThe object of this survey was to investigate the incidence of pelvic and low back pain in pregnancy and the awareness of expectant mothers to the treatment available to them. The purpose being to assess how well informed women are about treatment available to them and the most useful ways of informing and educating women about treatment for pain. This was done using a self-completion questionnaire.
The purpose of this study was to find out and enable the public to gain the full benefits available from mainly osteopathic medicine. With more patients using osteopaths having a more varied practice would provide greater job satisfaction and interest for the osteopath. It would also encourage use of research, continued professional development and better relations between allopathic medical services and osteopaths. With more people using osteopathy for their pain there would be a reduction on the demand of the National Health Service, a decrease in expenditure on chronic problems and a decrease in work related loss of earnings.
The results of the survey showed Prevalence of Back and Pelvic Pain in Pregnancy was significantly high but that very few women had been made aware of the treatment available to them. A significant number of participants felt it would be beneficial for women to be informed of treatment and that a booklet providing information would increase awareness - presented at
