- Abstract
- The aim of this research was to elicit risk factors for the development for osteoporosis from an osteopathic viewpoint. The design was an open-ended interview. The subjects were British School of Osteopathy tutors (n=15) with a mean length of time in practice of 9.1 years and with a range between 3 and 19 years. Results obtained were that the mean number of risk factors mentioned was 5.9. This showed that osteopaths consider multiple risk factors to be involved in the aetiology of osteoporosis. The most commonly mentioned themes were diet (13 out of 15), gynaecological history (11 out of 15), and age/sex (10 out of 15).This study highlights the need for continued education for osteopaths after qualification in this clinically relevant field.
