- Abstract
- Objective: To determine the extent that standing assessment routine is performed by UK osteopaths and how practitioner demographic might the routine performed. Method: 200 UK based osteopaths were asked to complete a mail-based questionnaire. Results: A high response rate of 45% showed that 90% of the UK osteopaths questioned consistently perform a standing assessment routine, which focuses in static and active spinal assessment. Osteopaths consider standing assessment routine a very important aspect of practice in reaching diagnosis and guiding patient management. Osteopaths spend the same time on standing assessment regardless of their years in practice or the length of their consultations. Although statistically, graduates from certain colleges tend to perform a faster routine. Conclusions: This study showed some interesting results that standing assessment is performed widely and with little variation for years of experience. Further research could consider practice assess how observations are used to inform diagnosis.
