- Abstract
- Objectives: The aim of this dissertation is to assess Osteopaths’ attitudes towards marketing themselves as practitioners and to determine which of the many marketing strategies are used and why. Does previous life experience or business training received during their Osteopathic course help and how efficient do they feel in marketing. Method: 200 randomly selected Osteopaths from the GOsC list were invited by post to assist in the form of a questionnaire. Results: 68% of Osteopaths took business courses and 63% took no courses. Osteopaths believed that they gained something by marketing and wanted marketing units in their degree. Osteopaths still favour yellow pages after which the internet was popular; then leaflets and then finally the media ranked low; some osteopaths used general medical practitioners. Conclusion: Osteopaths are going in the right direction in regards to marketing but not with a thought-out process or given strategy. If courses were given to construct strategies to marketing their business Osteopaths would find the whole process less unsystematic. Overall Osteopaths agree that during osteopathic training the course should involve more business-lead units.
