Introduction: Deep muscle activation is an effective technique to treat recurrent back pain of various etiologies. The objective was to observe the efficacy of a deep muscle activation program through Core Stability in recurrent back pain and whether it was equally effective at the dorsal, cervical and lumbar level.Methodology: quasi-experimental study was designed with a sample of 15 backache cases, including 5 levels, all of them with recurrent pain. A programming treatment of deep muscle activation two days in a week for 8 weeks was proposed. Pain was assessed before and after treatment through the BPI self-administration questionnaire, and recurrent pain 6 months later.
Results: It was observed a tendency of lower pain reduction at the lumbar level and a greater relative change at the cervical level. The variable change in quality of life, recurrence and percentage of pain compared to other treatments was higher at the lumbar level and lower at the cervical level.
Conclusions: It was observed that deep muscle activation through Core Stability is an effective technique to treat recurrent back pain, being significant at all levels. A cervical treatment was proposed for future research. - Abstract

- presented at
