- Abstract
- The primary aim of this study was to determine whether there is a relationship between a patients smoking history and their peripheral joint pain. The results showed that there was no significant difference found.The second objective of this study is to discuss the possible reasons and theories as to how smoking can lead to peripheral joint pain, through the cardiovascular effects of smoking and the development of peripheral arterial obstructive disease.The final aim of this project is to improve osteopaths' awareness of the musculoskeletal effects of smoking and to the benefits of encouraging patient cessation. Thus, providing advice and guidelines for practitioners in helping patients to stop smoking.
