- Abstract
- This study was designed to explore osteopaths understanding of somatisation, and to compare the different therapeutic approaches.Ten practising osteopaths were interviewed after a pre-selection procedure had established their suitability as interview subjects. The inclusion criteria was a belief that somatisation is a factor in their patients' symptom picture. The results showed a variance in osteopaths' understanding of somatisation, although certain similarities of approach were revealed. Links between osteopathic practice and psychotherapy, were suggested. These findings seem to have osteopathic relevance with regard to palpatory skills and use of touch.
