- This study aimed to observe the relationship between osteopathy and quality of life (QOL) in elderly patients with reduced mobility (RM), and present it as an adjunctive tool among treatments to increase the CV. To do a literature review on the pathophysiology of aging was performed and related to key aspects of osteopathic model. A pilot study to observe changes, performing an osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT), the perception of improved QOL scale by Nottingham Health Profile (NHP) was raised. A sample of 11 subjects aged 64 to 89 years, as a representation of the geriatric population of Catalonia was used. The results indicated that 72.70 % of the subjects had a change in the NHP test after being treated with OMT, 27.30% versus one in which there was no change. This result encouraged future studies continue to give statistical significance to the efficacy of OMT in CV with CV assessment tools, items that assess the musculoskeletal and EVA status of the subjects

- Este estudio pretendió observar la relación entre la osteopatía y la calidad de vida (CV) en pacientes geriátricos con movilidad reducida (MR), y presentarla como una herramienta coadyuvante entre los distintos tratamientos para aumentar la CV. Para ello se realizó una revisión bibliográfica sobre la fisiopatología del envejecimiento y se relacionó con los aspectos claves del modelo osteopático. Se planteó un estudio piloto para observar los cambios, al realizar un tratamiento manual osteopático (OMT), en la percepción de mejora de la CV mediante la escala Nottingham Health Profile (NHP). Se empleó una muestra de 11 sujetos con edades comprendidas entre 64 y 89 años, como representación de la población geriátrica de Cataluña. Los resultados indicaron que un 72,70 %de los sujetos dieron un cambio en el test NHP después de ser tratados con OMT, frente un 27,30% en los que no hubo cambios. Este resultado animó a continuar con futuros estudios que den significación estadística a la eficacia del OMT en la CV con herramientas de valoración de CV, ítems que valoren el estado musculo-esquelético y EVA de los sujetos.
