Abstract
Background: Tension-type headache (TTH) is the most prevalent headachetype and is causing a high degree of disability, specially in women. The aim
of the present study is to examine the effects of a cranial osteopathic
technique on women suffering from TTH.
Methods: 22 women diagnosed with TTH participated in this longitudinal,
controlled, quasi-experimental study. Patients were divided into two groups:
The experimental group (GE) was treated with a cranial osteopathic
technique. The control group (GC) received sham therapy (electrotherapy
with 0mA intensity). Both had two sessions separated by two weeks. The
impact of the headache over their quality of life was assessed by the
headache scale HIT-6 and the pain scale EVA.
Results: GE showed a reduction of both the HIT-6 and the EVA two weeks
after the beginning of the treatment, and two weeks posterior to the
treatment. On the other hand, the GC did not show any statistically significant
improvement.
Conclusions: the results support the effectiveness of this osteopathic
technique on the improvement of the quality of life in women with TTH.
However, the sample size prevents this study to be representative. A clinical
trial should be needed to confirm the results of the present study.
Abstract
no mostró ningún cambio estadísticamente significativo.
