- The osteopathic cranial model currently used was based in the knowledge of physiology and anatomy of the first half of the twentieth century. Since then, knowledge on the field of cranial ostheopaty has not evolved at the same pace as physiology and anatomy knowledge. The aim of this review is to summarize current knowledge about the physiology of production, circulation and re-absorption of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and compare it with the knowledge of CSF from an osteopathic approach. To achieve the objective a bibliographic search of the physiology of CSF and CSF in the osteopathic cranial field was performed. All documents were summarized and knowledge about CFS in the two blocks was compared. The number of published studies on the osteopathic knowledge of CSF is limited. The language used in the documents reviewed is ambiguous and vague, and this fact leads to inconclusive interpretations. Despite physiological knowledge has largely evolved since the moment when the osteopathic cranial postulates were set, these are supported by recent scientific studies. On the other hand, longitudinal fluctuation described by Sutherland and later expanded by other osteopaths is not supported by current scientific evidence since no studies describing this fluctuation were found.

- El model d’osteopatia cranial que es fa servir actualment va ser dissenyat segons els coneixements de fisiologia i d'anatomia de la primera meitat del segle XX. Des de llavors, els coneixements en el camp de l’osteopatia cranial no han evolucionat proporcionalment a com ho han fet en fisiologia i anatomia. L’objectiu d’aquesta revisió és resumir el coneixement actual sobre la fisiologia de la producció, circulació i reabsorció del líquid cefaloraquidi (LCR) i comparar-ho amb la comprensió descrita d'aquest, des del punt de vista de l'osteopatia cranial. S’ha realitzat una recerca bibliogràfica sobre la fisiologia del LCR i sobre el LCR en l’àmbit de l’osteopatia cranial. S’han resumit i comparat els coneixements sobre el LCR en els dos blocs. Hi ha pocs estudis publicats sobre els coneixements osteopàtics del LCR. El llenguatge utilitzat en els articles revisats es ambigu i poc clar, la qual cosa dóna lloc a diferents interpretacions. Malgrat el coneixement fisiològic actual del LCR ha variat força des del moment en que els postulats de l'osteopatia cranial van ser plantejats, part d'aquests es poden justificar a partir dels nous estudis científics. D’altra banda, la fluctuació longitudinal descrita per Sutherland i posteriorment ampliada per altres osteòpates, no és recolzada per l’evidència científica actual ja que no s’han trobat estudis que descriguin aquesta fluctuació.
