- Abstract
- INTRODUCTION: The new situation hormonal, postural and mechanics of the pregnant increases the chances of occurrence of edema in the legs. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the efficacy of osteopathic treatment on edema in the legs and their related clinical. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A quasi-experimental longitudinal prospective study, nonrandomized and without masking. The total sample was 18 women between 24 and 35 weeks of gestation with edema in the legs, divided into two groups: a treatment group performed three sessions in three consecutive weeks and controlled group that was not performed no intervention. We measured the perimeters of the legs and a questionnaire where they recorded the pain and heaviness in the legs, and the number of cramps experienced. In both groups the measurements were made before, after and a week of finishing treatment. RESULTS: We found evidence of significance between the treatment group and the controlled group in the variables recorded from leg pain (P= 0.059), heaviness in the legs (P= 0.13) and edema (P= 0.05). Pain decreases in the treatment group (Md: -0.5) and edema is slowed (Md:0), whereas in the controlled group increases pain (Md:1.3) and edema (Md:0.5). CONCLUSIONS: osteopathic treatment is effective for treating edema and clinical correlates between weeks 24 and 35 of gestation.

MATERIAL I MÈTODE: Estudi quasi-experimental longitudinal prospectiu, no randomitzat i sense emmascarar.
