Introduction: Low back pain has a high prevalence and is getting worse due to the aging and increasing world population. In Spain, back pain is the main reason for visiting the osteopath. Objective: The objectives were to analyze the effect of the treatment on the quality of life and pain in patients with low back pain after applying visceral techniques, structural techniques or a combination of both.
Patients and method: 36 patients were included, in the form of a quasi- experimental pre-post treatment study with patients diagnosed with low back pain, it is a comparative, longitudinal and prospective study, with OMT, VMT or both. Pain and quality of life variables were evaluated with VAS and the SF-36 Test.
Results: In the three groups (structural, visceral and combination of both) a significant change was observed in the VAS and the SF-36 Test between the first and last visit in 47.22% in the case of VAS and in 41, 67% of the Test-36 of the study participants.
Conclusions: We can see a positive change in patients treated with visceral techniques compared to those treated with structural techniques, both at the level of pain and quality of life. - Abstract
