Abstract
Introduction: Nowadays, obstetrical risk is calculated by means of static anthropometric measurements. Osteopathic articles study the ability to move in relation to childbirth. The results presented stem from a single measurement as pregnancy is a stage of continuous physical change. There are no studies that look at the evolution of the adaptability of the pelvis during pregnancy and how it affects childbirth.Materials and methods: By recruiting 46 pregnant women, a pilot observational study was carried out. They were summoned twice to observe the change that the Rhombus of Michaelis suffered by means of the Diamond Test, the lumbar flexibility through the Modified Schöber Test, the stability of the sacroiliac joints with the Posterior Pelvic Pain Provocation Test, and their living standards through the Pelvic Girdle Questionnaire. Subsequently, the birth data were recorded.
Results: The pregnancies of 18 primipara and 10 multiparous women were monitored. Statistical calculations were made using the R Bioconductor programme, where prepartum values were analysed and related to postpartum values.
Conclusion: The record of the evolution of the Diamnod Test, the MST, the PPPP, and the PGQ showed that mechanical stability is crucial to avoid obstetric risk.
