Introduction: Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) shows high prevalence in the western world. The current treatments are length and have after-effects, decreasing patients’ quality of life. Therefore, the objective of this study has been to verify the effectiveness of osteopathic techniques applied in GERD’s patients.
Material and methods: 44 patients diagnosed clinically for GERD have participated in the study; they were between 18 and 75 years old. They have been randomly separated in two groups. One of the groups was treated with an only session and the other group was not. The changes pre and post treatment were valuated with GerdQ test. The U Mann-Whitney was used to study the association between quantitative and qualitative variables, being the variables: sex, age, lifestyle
scale and BMI. Those variables were crossed with the GerdQ pre-treatment in short and medium term. Results: An improvement was observed in the patients associated to the sex variable. The males presented an improvement in short as in medium term regarding the control group. There wee not any relevance in other variables.
Conclusions: The osteopathic treatment in patients diagnosed with GERD that were treated with a single treatment presented a significant improvement in short and medium term in males without difference of age, lifestyle or BMI. - Abstract

Introducción: La Enfermedad por Reflujo Gastroesofágico (ERGE) muestra una alta prevalencia en occidente. Los tratamientos actuales son prolongados y presentan efectos secundarios; degradando la calidad de vida de los pacientes. Por lo que el objetivo de este estudio fue comprobar la efectividad de técnicas osteopáticas para la ERGE.
Material y métodos: participaron 44 pacientes diagnosticados clínicamente de ERGE con edades entre 18 y 75 años; separados aleatoriamente en dos grupos iguales. Un grupo recibió una única sesión de tratamiento y el otro grupo no recibió ningún tratamiento. Se valoró los cambios pre y post tratamiento mediante el GerdQ. Para el estudio de la asociación entre variables cuantitativas y cualitativas se utilizó la prueba U de Mann-Whitney considerando las variables: sexo, edad, escala de estilo de vida e IMC. Se cruzó estas variables con el GerdQ pre-tratamiento, a corto plazo y a medio plazo.
Resultados: Se observó mejoría en los síntomas de los pacientes asociado a la variable sexo. Los pacientes de sexo masculino presentaron una mejoría tanto a corto como a medio plazo respecto al grupo control. No hubo relevancia en otras variables.
Conclusiones: El tratamiento osteopático en pacientes diagnosticados de ERGE tras una sola sesión presentaron mejoras significativas a corto y medio plazo en hombres sin diferencia de edad, estilo de vida o IMC. - presented at
