Abstract
Abstract
Introduction: the technique used in the present study has not shown to be effective in the treatment of the IUE and also did not produce changes in sacrum and pubic lesions. Urinary stress incontinence (USI) is a pathology with very high prevalence in the female population. Barral's technique was applied in the present study on the sacrum-rectum-vesico-pubic lamina to verify if the technique produced relevant changes on the frequency of incontinence or the volume of urine excreted. The study also examined whether the technique improved osteopathic lesions in the sacrum and pubis..
Methodology: a linear retrospective study was performed to observe the effects produced by the technique. Objective (ICIQ-SF) and subjective data (micturial diary) were collected. The sample of patients for the study was 13 women, (age range = 18-60 years) participated in the study. Participants were randomly assigned to either the control (N=6) or the experimental (N=7) group. In the treatment group the technique was performed, in the control group the technique was performed without intention. Two evaluations were performed, pre and post-treatment.
Results: significant effects for the experimental technique were not found to treat IUE. Changes in sacrum and pubic lesions were not found either.
Conclusions: It is necessary, due to the large percentage of the population that suffers from this pathology and its implications at the bio-psycho-social level, that the research on the manual treatment of SUI and the rest of incontinences be increased.
