Inhalt:

chemoinduzierten Polyneuropathie.

Content: Chemotherapy-induced
polyneuropathy (CIPN) is a negative side-effect of many chemotherapies and one
of the main reasons for sustained pain in cancer patients. When patients
develop such neuropathies, it is often necessary to reduce the chemotherapy
doses or even end the chemotherapy, which can cause an increase of morbidity
and mortality (Seretny et al., 2014).

Method: The aim of this randomized controlled trial (n=26) was to assess the
CV4-technique and its effect on chemotherapy-induced polyneuropathy and its
influence on the patients’ quality of life. The results were evaluated by means
of the EORTC QLQ-C30 and CIPN 20 questionnaires.

Results: No significant
changes regarding an improvement of the quality of life or the symptoms of
discomfort could be observed in connection with the application of the CV4-technique. However, the Global Health Status (QL2) showed an improvement by
25 points from the baseline to the follow up measurement, which is considered
as “very much” change according to Osaba.

The autonomic, sensory and motor scales of the CIPN 20 instrument did
not evidence a statistical significance regarding the effect of the CV4-technique
on chemotherapy-induced polyneuropathy. The clinical relevance indicated a
decrease of the complaints in terms of muscle cramps, numbness in toes or feet,
and tingling toes.

Conclusion: The individual results and the clinical relevance of this study support
the use of osteopathy to improve the quality of life and reduce symptoms of
discomfort in the context of chemotherapy-induced polyneuropathies.

Key words: CIPN, endocannabinoid system, cancer pain, cerebrospinal fluid motion,
