Studiendesign: Randomisierte
kontrollierte Studie im Crossover-Design.

Methoden: Gruppe A (n=14) erhielt
in den ersten 4 Wochen 3 Behandlungen, Gruppe B (n=14) erhielt in diesem Zeitraum
keine Behandlungen. In den anschließenden 4 Wochen erfolgte die
Behandlungsphase der Gruppe B mit 3 Behandlungen und Gruppe A erhielt keine
Behandlungen. Es wurden die durchschnittliche Schmerzintensität und die
Schmerzspitze mittels Visueller Analog Skala erhoben, als auch die Auswirkungen
der Schmerzen auf die alltäglichen Aktivitäten durch den Roland and Morris
Disability Questionnaire (RMDQ). Anschließend wurden
die Ergebnisse der Behandlungsphase mit der Nicht-Behandlungsphase verglichen
und die Signifikanzniveaus mit p≤0,05 festgelegt.

Ergebnisse: Die osteopathische Behandlung zeigt
eine signifikante Verbesserung der durchschnittlichen Schmerzintensität, der
Schmerzspitze sowie bei den Auswirkungen der Schmerzen auf die alltäglichen
Aktivitäten im Vergleich zur Nicht-Behandlung. Aufgrund der ausgelassenen
Auswaschphase wurde der Carryover-Effekt überprüft, welcher statistisch verneint
werden kann. Die Follow-up Messung zeigt eine Stabilität der Ergebnisse.

Diskussion: Durch einen zusätzlichen
Messzeitpunkt bei Gruppe B könnten aussagekräftigere Ergebnisse für das
Follow-up erzielt werden. Bei der Erfassung funktioneller Einschränkungen ist
der RMDQ bezüglich der Sensitivität der abzufragenden Daten zu überdenken.

Konklusion: Die positiven Ergebnisse dieser Masterarbeit sollen zu weiteren Studien
dieser Thematik anregen. Weitere Erkenntnisse könnten die Basis für eine
vielversprechende Behandlungsform des chronisch unspezifischen Rückenschmerzes
darstellen.

Abstract
en Aims:
This study is aiming to evaluate the influence of osteopathic treatment
on the thoracolumbar fascia of patients with chronic non-specific low back
pain.

Study
design: Randomized, controlled trial in crossover design.

Methods:
Group A (n=14) received 3 treatments during the first 4 weeks, group B
(n=14) received no treatment during this period. In the subsequent 4 weeks,
group B received 3 treatments and group A received no treatments. The average
intensity of pain as well as the peak of pain were monitored by the Visual
Analogue Scale, whereas the effects of pain on everyday activities were
evaluated through the Roland and Morris Disability Questionnaire (RMDQ).
Afterwards, the results of the phases of treatment were compared with those of
no treatment. The significance levels were set with p≤0.05.

Results:
It shows that osteopathic treatment helps to improve significantly both the
intensity of average pain and that of peak pain as well as the pain at all
daily activities, compared to no treatment. Due to the left out washout phase,
the carryover effect was tested, which was statistically negated. The follow-up
measurement showed that the results achieved, remained stable.

Discussion:
Through extra screening time more explicit results could be attained for the
follow-up of group B. When determining functional limitations, the RMDQ should
be reconsidered regarding the sensitivity of the data to be investigated.

Conclusion:
The positive results shown in this Master thesis should encourage further
studies on this topic. More scientific findings could be the basis for a
promising treatment of chronic non-specific low back pain.
