Abstract
Introduction: The subtalar joint is credited for the adaptive capacity of the foot to the terrain and the distribution of the body masses toward the rest of the foot joints. This study aimed to demonstrate that the application of an articulation technique on the subtalar joint of sportsmen would provoke changes in balance and that these would endure over time.
Methodology: The participants were 22 sportsmen whose age ranged from 18 to 36 years with a dysfunction in the subtalar joint. Two groups were formed (Experimental and Control Group) with 11 subjects in each one. Each subject was submitted to measurements in the Podometric Platform. An articulatory technique was applied to the subtalar joint of the Experimental Group and a placebo to the Control Group. Immediately after, measurements were taken. After a month all subjects were measured once again.
Results: It was considered a statistically significant p value (p) < 0.05. The Experimental Group was observed to have a deviation of the centre of gravity on the Y axis (Actual (p=0.018) Median (p=0.025)). The rest of the analyzed variables were not significant.
Conclusions: Following the joint movement of the subtalar joint, there were changes over the centre of gravity affecting the Y axis. The rest of the variables did not present any significant changes.
