OBJECTIVES:
To evaluate by comparison the results obtained on range of motion of oral opening and pressure pain threshold of pterion point between application or no of upper cervical spine manipulation by OAA of Fryette global thecnic (OAAT) versus control group (CT)
HYPOTHESIS:
In patients with mechanical neck pain and limited mouth opening, the upper cervical spine manipulation causes inmediate changes on range of motion of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and pressure pain threshold (PPT) of pterion.
MATERIAL AND METHODS:
Randomized controlled experimental trial, simple blind. Pre/post measurements about maximum mouth opening and pressure pain threshold of pterion have taken. 52 patients have participated, 26 in intervention group (OAAT) and 26 in control group (CT). We used a digital caliper and a digital force gauge to take measurements.
RESULTS:
OAAT group obtained a significantly higher TMJ opening increase (p<0,001) versus control group , and an improvement of PPT nearly signification (p=0,055), versus a significantly decrease of PPT of contro group.
CONCLUSIONS:
The upper cervical spine manipulation by OAA thecnic of Fryette causes an immediate increase of range of motion of active oral opening and an increase of PPT of pterion. - Abstract

OBJETIVOS:
Valorar de forma comparativa los resultados inmediatos obtenidos en cuanto a la amplitud articular de la apertura vertical de la boca y el umbral del dolor a la presión en el pterión (UDP) entre la aplicación o no de la técnica de manipulación con impulso (thrust) occipito-atlo-axoidea según Fryette (TOAA) respecto al grupo control (TC).
HIPÓTESIS:
En pacientes con cervicalgia mecánica y limitación de la apertura de la boca, la manipulación de la charnela occipito-atlo-axoidea produce un cambio inmediato en la amplitud articular de la articulación temporomandibular (ATM) y en el umbral del dolor a la presión (UDP) del pterión.
MATERIAL Y MÉTODOS:
Estudio experimental controlado aleatorizado, simple ciego, con grupo control. Se han realizado mediciones pre/post-intervención de la apertura de la boca y del umbral del dolor a la presión en el pterión. Han participado 52 pacientes, 26 en el grupo intervención y 26 en el grupo control. Utilizamos calibre y dinamómetro digital para la toma de mediciones.
RESULTADOS:
El grupo intervención obtuvo una apertura de la boca significativamente mayor (p<0,001), con respecto al grupo control, así como un aumento en el umbral del dolor a la presión muy próximo a la significación (p=0,055) respecto al grupo control, el cuál disminuyó significativamente el UDP.
CONCLUSIONES:
La técnica de manipulación global OAA según Fryette aumenta inmediatamente la amplitud de la apertura vertical activa de la boca y aumenta el UDP en el pterión. - presented at
